In 1958, American engineer Dick Fisher set up his own shipyard in Massachusetts. He named his hulls Boston Whaler, where Whaler means "sailboat" and Boston is the capital of this American state. Fisher based his concept on the qualities of the newly invented polyurethane foam, which he injected between the two hull skins. Thanks to this revolutionary process, Dick Fisher ensured his hulls unparalleled solidity and unsinkability. The stability of gullwing hulls is also a very popular feature among Boston Whaler users.
